Clean lenses installed !

My clear indicator lamp covers and oil filters that I ordered onlinbe is finally here.  It was an easy job to unscrew the old apek red and orange covers out and replace the bulbs with LED before screwing in the new clear lenses. Looking nice.

One thing about the LED indicatot lights is that, They are too bright and in blue tone that make the yellowish head lights look even old so I guess I'm changing the headlight to something white lah . Considered HID but I don't want to be pulled over each time I come across a road block, or have to feed any starving officers coffee before/during/after some national holidays. What to do leh? LED head light  legal or not ah?

Meanwhile, waiting for my NAS style LED back lights to be arrived.

Kaki baru !

I was lucky enough to have this very good offer from a fellow gila landy, a pair of adjustable Rancho RS9000 front shocks (dampers)!

Although the original set of shocks were new as the previous owner had them replaced during restoring, I decided to keep the front pair as spare and fit in the RS9000. Itchy butt la.

While I'm there, I thought I might as well service and re-paint the brake callipers, clean the pistons and fit in new pads too. Bled the old brake fluid as seen manual and refilled it to the top.

I also had the hub bearings re-greased and tighten as well since I was in there.

Then came the harder part. The shocks! After reading articles on line about it, I've came prepared knowing how much work it is, and aware of it wasn't going to be easy.

You can read the useful article here at landyzone

But you know we boys lah, when we kee shiao (get crazy),  no matter how hard it is we also can find ways to accomplish the mission!

After hours of screwing in and our, banging, cave diving and a lot of  cursing over the 2 days works...It's finally fitted in.
The passenger side was an easier treat (but not any easier!) , but the driver side.. You'll have to take out a lot of things like the coolant reservior before gaining access to the tower...which was a bitch in life!!!

I have them set on the hardest as I mostly drive the car to work in town, tested it and it really improved the handling a lot, compared to the softer ori shocks which are meant for heavy load.
Very smooth drive! I'm really happpy with it and thinking of getting another pair for the rear very soon after selling my balls

By the way, think I'll try to re-tighten swivel bearing of the swivel hub
(Botak/Monk Head as Derek called it) and reset the preload value tonight this weekend..

Soon la

The interior pimp-up

When i got my landy, the condition of the interior was as expected - old and tired, but it wasn't as bad.
A little ( a lot actually ) works and efforts was expected to put to make it looks better and comfortable.
So the past few weekends' project was to pimp up the interior as comfortable as it can be..

Check list 1. Gotta pimp those door panels.
The door panals looked old and colour faded. There's even one with discolouration. Not sure it was replaced before, or just faded over the years. Planned to spray paint them as I was going to spray paint the trimming as well, but thinking I might as well use 3M carbon stickers to cover the whole thing,
making it looks new. Save the sand-papering. It was done over 2 nights and the outcome :

Added in some carpet trimming for a more modern looks.

Check list 2. Gotta pimp up the dashboard.
If you have been in a defender before, you'll have the idea. The dashboard of a typical defender is, simple, and simple it is. It's so simple that you even wonder if the LR Silhoul facility actually built them with craps that they found in scrapyards. It's so simple that if you'd like to fit an audio in, you'll have to buy a box like house to fit in, or build yourself one - then figure out where you wanna fit it!
 And Air-conditional Was Optional!!

So there's a lot to do after taking it aparts:
1. Re-painting the parts suh as ashtray, heater air vent, console panels.
2. Clean up, servicing, painting the gauge rings in silver and fitting in new LED bulbs.
3. Sound/heat proofing the bulkhead from the inside, with polymoulds stole I got from work.
4. A lot of water-proofing silicone works!
5. Building a centre console and fit in a LCD audio, reverse camera coming soon.
6. Building an aircon duct to re-route it from passaanger side to the middle, TD5 style.
7. Redo wiring as musch as I can.
8. Fix or try to fix anything broken, including the arm-rest console, Mcgyever style!

Taking all apart !!

Dashboard re-painted. Centre console and aircon duct on it's way.

Check list 3. Gotta redo the interior triming:
So far for this I have done:
1. Taken out interior panals and re-painting them in gray.
2. Refitting the front and 2nd roll passanger seats.
3. Carpetting (half way done)
4. New padels.

What I've gotten so far..

To be added in soon are:
- Roof console for the fuses to move in, and to fit in radio.
- Momo steering
- Waiting for my reverse camera
- More spound-proofing and carpeting.
- Re-check the water ingress of the roofing, fill any gap found with putty/sillicon.

Mmm that's about it. Stay tuned.

The landy Curse !

If you find yourself with following symptoms:
1. You are so alert that whenever there's a Landy near you, you know it.
2. You can sense the landy 5 cars away behind you at the traffic light.
3. You can smell a Landy from 5km away.
4. You get neck pain not from driving, but from checking out passing Landies.
5. You spend more time surfing for Landy photos online than surfing porns

You've kena  Class C (minor) Landy Poisoning.
The cure:
1. Eat more vegetables
2. Get a Sedan car
3. Get a Landy (best cure)

If you find the symptoms developed futher:
1. You take photos of all Landies you came across in the street.
2. You skip lunch to go to LR showroom for a test drive / just see see look look
3. You bought your first issue of LRO monthly magazine.
4. Your friends kept MMS you photos of their landy.
5. You're already planning how to pimp up a landy and have checked out accessories on ebay
    - like you already have one.

You've kena Class B (Average) Landy Poisoning.
The cure:
1. Tell your wife/gf your intention and hope their nagging can stop it all..
2. Make new friends who'll give you 1001 reasons to choose a Toyota over a Landy.
(...or 1002 reasons to give up owning a landy)
3. Get a Landy (proven cure)

If you find the symptoms gotten worst:
1. You keep having LR-related dreams (sometimes Inception style, sometimes wet)
2. You found out that Queen Elizabeth of England is also driving one
3. You recognise most of the landy on the road, and know where the owner lives!
4. You are starting to smell like motor oil.
5. Every movie you chose to watch has at least a Defender in it.

You've kena Class A (very serious) Landy Poisoning.
The cure:
1. Tell your wife you are getting a landy, or divorce it is!
2. Get a fucking Landy!
3. You don't want to be cured, do you?

Luther's Emma Thompson

A few months ago my Fellow fishing/hunting comrade and good friend Luther who's also kena the Landy poison so deep that he finally decided to get himself a brand new Defender 110 crew cab.

After months of waiting, Emma Thmpson ( being brand new like a virgin, sexy and pok pok choi like the brit actress compared to my Sean Connery) finally touched down and waiting to be picked up by her owner at LR's showroom in Tawau next week...

Very sexy colour oh !

Envy betul...!! Also, he's one of the few lucky bastards badasses to recieve the first batch 2.2 EU5 engined Defy in the country.

Luther's even ordered few goodies months before the car's arrival. With all his MMS each time he recieved the accesories, making people gatal betul!

According to him, he'll be picking it up on the 1st of June, driving it stright to Leklek's workshop garage to fit the wheel carrie and the clear lens he bought. Too bad the A-frame not yet arrive la...

Folloe us to see the process of his pimp-ups soon!

Le Hunting Trip

Was in the jungle of ulu ulu off Kinabatagaan in Tawau over the weekend. Finally get to see Ali chai's Yellow one after hearing about it from the tawau gang so many times. Get to ride in it during the whole trip also. Very good condition for the age, very Camel Trophy feel bah. The 19J enjin is good enough for the job, but of course cannot compare with other younger cars lah.. maybe a 300tdi replacement soon?

Yes I know you are humming the Camel Trophy theme song watching this

Comparing the old trusty 19j to the newer trunks is like, comparing donkey to camels.. it may not have high tech changi AI engine and as powerful as Cikgu's Dmax, the old good donkey can still get you there... with some extra load. And that is good enough lah. After all it is a Land Rover.

Tuan Liew's Hi-lux and Cikgu's Dmax in action:

Of course the spotlight was on Leklek's Rojak Rover. Really can't find another name for his Series 109 hybrid. What's left of a lady in it, is the chasis and the body panels. It's been rebuilt into a Toyota-powered monster running on toyota axles. 2 winches. Typical Sabahan 4WD engineering, it's so Macho that it makes its whole crew looks like a the rebels / smugglers that Lara Croft also wanna run away from, or the bad guys in a lost-in-the-jungle action film. One word. Badass!

it's so badass that it turns a highschool teacher into a jungle thug

it's so badass that it turns divers like Jonathan as pale as snow white

Where we sleep
Venision for meals
and fresh kelah straight from the river!

Thanks guys for the great weekend breakaway! Looking foward to the next trip!

Nose job done

The Dark Knight Rises is comming out, and Tom Hardy's Bane is given a nice cool mask, I think it's time to give my landy a nose job!

So it was another weekend project! After hours of spray painting, drilling, unsrewing, screwing-on..

The Car is going to be repainted in gray soon in near future eventually, so I decided that i might as well try out some colour matching. Matelic black turns out cool. What i'm planning to do next is to put on the Land Rover bonnet decal in black, then checker plates on top lah if can.

Tinted the wind screen as the previous white-coloured thingy looks cacat so it had to go. Also moved the aluminium apek-style number plate to the middle...

Macam? looks younger now kan?
